The Problem with Zoom that No One is Talking About

video Apr 20, 2020

The problem with Zoom that no one is talking about and the simple solution I've got for you.

So we all know that it doesn’t matter what you look like…until you see yourself on Zoom and you’re like whaaaaat-the-actual-fudge, where the hell are my tweezers!

And then does the rest of the internal dialogue go something like:

man I wasn’t listening…seriously why do I still get pimples? Can I google while on Zoom, dammit, why didn’t I organise a phone call, sooo-much-easier, don’t they realise I can see up their nose…oh far out, I’m sure other social workers don’t judge their client’s nose, Cherie!'.

Does your brain go a million miles an hour like mine on Zoom calls?

Here are 3 ways to love doing Zoom calls and make them more meaningful for your clients.

1. People remember how you make them feel. They are there for your content, not your beautiful eyebrows. Focus on the purpose of your role and how you can be of service to your client. And be so darn good at your job that they are only focused on that!

2. If you are going to be focused on how you look, then look better! Put on your favourite outfit. The one that makes you feel comfortable and confident. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look the part.

3. Background and lighting do help. Sitting in front of a window where natural light comes in can make you look great. Also keep a consistent background. I like white walls with simple things in the background so I don't get distracted. And, position your camera well so I’m not looking up your nose!

And you know what? No one has taught us to pivot and do clinical work using different platforms and here you are adjusting whilst adjusting to everything else. You are doing an amazing job. And thank you for doing so.

But for the killer bonus tip:-

For the love of all things holy don’t do the virtual pop in, gah!

I've also got a free breathing strategy to use with clients to calm their nervous system for more info click here.
